Burns Day 4, January 24

Jack had a procedure this morning where they inserted 2 nerve blockers into his left leg.  That was inserted by a female anesthesiologist named Dr. Black.  She told us that she got into this business because her dad had problems with narcotics.  So she wanted to get into a field that didn't use narcotics.  That was a cool discussion bc I was able to talk to Jack about that - and also try to distract him from this painful procedure.  I talked to Jack and the doctor about how bc of her experience with her dad the course of her life led her to being an anesthesiologist.  I told Jack that now that he's been burned the course of his life is changed forever.  He might decide to go into a field of study that has something to do with burns now or maybe he'll just be a more compassionate/empathetic person to those who have been burned or hurt in any way.  No matter what he is not the same person he was 5 days ago.
After Dr. Black inserted the 2 nerve blockers in his left leg he was given 2 controls that give him extra drips of medicine to his leg through his catheters if he needs it.  Every hour there's a flashing light that tells him it's OK to push it again.  He can't feel his left leg anymore so that made him pretty happy.  His leg is numb now.
Next they took him to the O.R. where he will be for the next couple of hours.  The doctor has decided that his case would be best getting cadaver skin.  They will staple on cadaver skin to his leg to help it heal.  Then in 3 or 4 days they will remove it and add new cadaver skin, if necessary.
There's also one bad spot near his ankle that the dr. is considering doing a skin graft on from Jack's upper thigh but she won't decide until Jack's in the O.R. and they have cleaned his wounds and taken a good look at them.
He has been a champ through all of this!
Everyone's support and prayers mean everything to me right now!
